Trees for the Hart
Thank you for your interest in our Trees for the Hart program! Our goal is to plant 2,000+ trees by 2028 all around the city of Elkhart. Tree planting areas are determined by a tree equity score (a combination of socioeconomic factors, pavement temperature, canopy cover, etc.). All districts in Elkhart have areas that qualify for trees, and we want to plant as many as we can--which is why we need YOUR help!
We want to work with YOU to host tree planting events in neighborhoods around the city. Our goal is to plant at least 100 trees for each planting event, so we need as many helping hands as we can find. We would love to work with:
- Individuals who are passionate about trees and improving our community
- Businesses and nonprofits looking for great team-building opportunities and ways to give back
- Scouts, clubs, and any other groups looking to get involved in making our city a better place
While we have some planting dates scheduled and open to the public, we are more than happy to work with groups to create tree planting events that are convenient for you. If you are interested in setting up a tree planting event for your group, please contact Elkhart Environmental Center staff at EECmail@coei.org or call 574-293-5070.
Volunteering
We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in:
- Helping plant trees during our tree planting events
- Helping lead groups during our tree planting events
- We will provide a brief training before the tree planting event for anyone interested in being a group leader
- Helping us spread the word about the Trees for the Hart program and our upcoming planting events
- Becoming a part of the Trees for the Hart program
- These volunteers may be interested in helping coordinate tree planting events or becoming a part of the city's Tree Board
If you have any questions or would like more information about any of these opportunities, please contact the Elkhart Environmental Center at EECmail@coei.org or call 574-293-5070.
