Volunteering at our annual Halloween event, Haunted Walk Through the Woods? Attend our volunteer orientation on Tuesday, October 21st from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM to get details about event setup, shifts, and logistics! This orientation is optional and open to anyone volunteering over the three-day span of the event. Please meet inside the EEC’s Visitor’s Cabin. Snacks will be provided!

Do you love decorating for the holidays? Help us turn our trails into a Halloween wonderland--decorating our prairie and wetland trails for kids and our back woodland area into a scary trail. All decorations and supplies provided. Come get creative with us!

Please note: If you are only able to help for part of a shift, we would still love your help! Just let us know when you are available.

Parking volunteers are an essential part of this event--not only are they the first staff that visitors meet but they also keep traffic flowing, keep pedestrians safe, and get cars in and out in an efficient way.

Parking volunteers are stationed at the main gate, overflow parking, and main parking lot. They stay in communication via walkie-talkies to monitor available spots in the main and overflow lots and to accurately direct cars where to go. They also keep an eye out for pedestrians crossing in the main parking lot. Traffic is one-way to keep things safe and simple.

High-vis vests and wands along with walkie-talkies are provided. 

Point visitors in the right direction to the decorated trails and help promote the EEC! Information about the event and EEC will be provided at the booth for volunteers manning this station. A walkie-talkie will also be provided to reach EEC staff throughout the event.

Help us get photos of the event! Photographers roam the trails getting photos of the decorations, guests, food trucks, band, volunteers, etc. This is a HUGE help for us for several reasons: it gives us a great overall picture (haha) of the event, it's a perfect gift to send out with our thank-yous to volunteers, it's fun for visitors to check out on social media after the event, and it is super useful in promoting the event in years to come. 

Photographers do need to provide their own camera. Photos can be uploaded to a drop-box or we can save them off of a memory card. 

Help us keep an eye on the trails! Trail monitors walk the trails throughout the event to make sure all the decorations stay in place (e.g. blow-ups are blown up, fog machines are fogging, etc.) and trail actors are doing ok. Trail monitors help fix any issues with the decorations and report any issues on the trails. 

Flexible on what part of the event you want to help with? Be a floater! Cover stations for other volunteers while they take breaks, help out with general operations of the event, and fill in wherever staff needs some extra assistance.

Cleanup volunteers help us pack away the decorations for safe-keeping!

Dress in your spooky best and come be a part of our Haunted Walk Through the Woods! Trail actors roam our scary trail and add an extra boost of creepiness for guests. The event starts at 5 PM, but we ask volunteers to arrive early to give you enough time to park and check in.
